Tour to Gobi with Naadam festival

The Nadaam festival, or eriyn gurvan nadaam, is the biggest festival of the year for Mongolians.


Full description & Itinerary

Usually occuring
in July, it runs for three days in all parts of the country and
highlights the greatest athletes in horse racing, archery, and
wrestling: Mongolia’s most popular sports. Women participate in all but
the wrestling category. The word Nadaam means game or competition in
Mongolian. Competitions take place days.
Day one. Arrive
in Ulaanbaatar, capital of Mongolia. Ulaanbaatar is also known among
foreigners as UB. Guide and driver will meet you at the airport. Your
hotel is conveniently located right in downtown UB walking distance
from Sukhbaatar Square, museums and theaters. Time permitting, your
guide will offer a short city orientation before dinner.

Day two:

Its
first day of Naadam festival. In morning we’ll see the opening ceremony
of Naadam. After lunch drive to khorse racing place (30km from Ub).
Overnight at hotel.

Day three:

After
breakfast drive to archery place. Archery is one of three manly game.
But here can participate not only men but the women and childrens.
After archery visit the Gandan Hiid (monastery), the largest Buddhist
Temple in Mongolia, and National History museum. Overnight at hotel.

Day four:

Drive to Tuv province to see “Horsemen” show. We can see the wonderfull skills of mongolian horsemen. Overnight at hotel.

Day five:

Fly
to Gobi. Drive to Khongoryn Els or “singing dunes” with the wind
howling through the sand (2600 feet high, 20 km wide and 100 km long)
for spectacular views of the desert. Option to attempt climbing to the
top of the dunes. Overnight in ger camp.

Day six:

Visit
Flaming Cliffs where an American expedition headed by Roy Andrew
Chapman first discovered the fossil site and the first ever recorded
dinosaur eggs in 1922. Stay overnight in ger camp.

Day seven:

Visit
Yolin Am and park museum. This 40 km long canyon in the Gurvansaikhan
Mountains is home to the endangered snow leopards and has a place where
ice remains into August. Picnic lunch. Visit with local herder family.
Stay overnight in ger camp.

Day eight:

Fly
back to Ub. Visit the Zaisan Memorial, a prominent landmark looking
over the city of UB built on Bogd Khan Mountain. Walk Sukhbaatar
Square, named after the Mongolian National Hero of People’s Revolution
in 1921. Sukhbaatar Square is surrounded by Parliament, Stock Market,
Cultural, Palace, Royal Opera House and the main post office. Overnight
in hotel.
Day nine:
Guide will transfer you to the airport for your departure flight home
