For the native English speaker there is plenty of opportunity to teach English privately – normally for more than the schools pay but with less job security and often without a work visa. Jobs are normally advertised in the English language newspapers The Mongol messenger and The UB Post which can be picked up from the Central Post Office and other paper booths in the street. Other places include the notice boards in bars which expats frequent and hotels and hostel notice boards.
Word of mouth also can bring in job offers so ask around – sometimes you get random text messages from friends of friends asking for help. Some teachers work part time for schools and give the (more well-off) pupils extra lessons to supplement their income. Rates are around $10 an hour.
