Altan Urag Promotes Traditional Music PDF Print E-mail

Under a campaign to promote traditional Mongolian music, a folk rock band Altan Urag has successfully going popular among young generation. The campaign has been running under the sponsor of the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sciences together with Khan Bank.

The campaign started last week at the School of Economics of the National University of Mongolia under thunderous applause by hundreds of students. Within a week, Altan Urag performed in several universities and secondary schools as well as fan club meetings organized introducing and sharing history of traditional musical instruments: morin khuur (horse-headed fiddle), bishguur khuur (flute), yochin (dulcimer) and ih khuur (grand fiddle), their symbolization and khoomii or throat singing.

The campaign will cover 15 universities and education institutes from six central districts of Ulaanbaatar until April 15.

Experts say copper prices to remain high for next two years

Market observers believe Mongolian copper prices will remain high for at least the next two years. One of the main reasons given for the continuing high prices are delays to planned mining projects caused by increasing percentages of revenues being funneled off by governments in Mongolia and Africa.
