Maritime transport is undertaken by 1 tugboat along with 3 numbers of barges carrying a freight only in the Huvsugul Lake between Khankh in Russia and Khatgal village in Mongolia. It only operates during warm climate seasons and carries a lesser frieght and passengers. The moving components of the ship are outdated and technical performnaces of them are poor. A smaller size of ships and boats are being used for a purpose of tourism, scientific research and fishing in rivers and lakes.
With a purpose of having an access to the sea wealth and undertake sea transportation by way of using discounts allocated to a land-locked country, Mongolia has joined to 11 international contracts, negotiations and the Convention. This has created a possibility for ships to travel with the national flag of Mongolia and joint venture named as “Mongolian Ship Registration” in Singapore, which has registered more than 500 ships and controls and coordinates over their activities. The services charges for this function considerably contributes to formation of the state budget.
