The 83rd Anniversary of Mongolia’s Proclamation

{mosimage}Niislel Khuree, the capital city of the Bogd Khaan’s Monarchy, was established as a result of Mongolia’s struggle for independence, by the first Great State Khural held on November 25, 1924. On the following day, the country proclaimed its independence from China, and Niislel Khuree was named as the capital city of the People’s Republic of Mongolia.

On the following day, the country proclaimed its independence from China, and Niislel Khuree was named as the capital city of the People’s Republic of Mongolia. On November 26, 2007 Mongolians celebrate Proclamation Day. 

The 83rd anniversary of Mongolia’s proclamation began with the laying of a wreath at D.Sukhbaatar’s statue. Also giving honor to the monument of the Great Chinggis Khaan, by new Prime Minister S.Bayar, Speaker of Parliament D.Lundeejantsan, Acting Deputy Premier M.Enkhsaikhan, parliament members, members of the Democratic Party, foreign ambassadors in Mongolia, on November 26, in Sukhbaatar square. The President of Mongolia was unable to attend due to his official visit in the Arab countries. After the laying of the wreath at the Sukhbaatar statue, the Mongolian flag was hoisted and the national anthem played. Afterwards, they bowed in front of the Great Chinggis Khaan monument and the ceremony concluded.

The first master plan for developing Ulaanbaatar was developed and implemented in the 1950s. Since the 1960s, present-day urbanization policy plans have been worked out. Activities associated with the city’s urbanization, the planting of gardens and trees, and providing municipal improvement have begun to be carried out. Ulaanbaatar city, which had a population of just 54,000 people in 1954, now has about one million and with long and short- term transit, foreign and national visitors, it increases in population figures.

The city today produces 40 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which can be broken down as 53.4 percent of industrial production, 87.1 percent of construction, 56.3 percent of trade, 80 percent of energy, and 98 percent of transport and communication. The city of Ulaanbaatar has established and maintains friendly sister city relationships with many cities around the world, including Seoul, Florence, Moscow and Denver. Among the world’s capital cities, Ulaanbaatar is notable as the capital city located at the highest altitude with the coldest climatic conditions.
