Teachings of Genghis Khan

Genghis was a very skilled and wise man in attracting scholars, statesmen, generals and even people. He was not uneducated. No records proven that he have had any education, but it is obvious that he was a very smart man if we look at his teachings and decision. When he was young, Temujin lived and studied at the court of Ong Khan. He paid close attention to the affairs of the court in order to educate himself. Therefore, his teachings were the custom and law that followed for his sons, successors and Mongol generations. His spiritual teachings and sayings can be divided into following categories. State and Government Affairs :

- On wise and farseeing statesman.
“Strive to the pass of high mountain
Cross in the shallow side of the wide ocean
Do not give up because of distance
Will certainly reach if walks
Do not discourage of human
Shall overcome if you try “

- On maintaining the Great Mongol State in the future.
“ From dusk till dawn
I gathered people and their crown
Conquered the hearts of
Not too few
United the heads of
Now too humble.
When weaken your mind
Don’t get weakened
When tired of thinking
Don’t get tired
My sons and descendants
Don’t get exhausted in mind and thought, but get experienced. “

- On behavior of Khan and serfs.
“If the Khan behaves as serfs
Lose entire states and all estates.
If serfs behave as Khan
He will regret for his head.
In time of friendship and harmony
Befriend as closely
In time of conflict with enemies
Be falcon of advance and attacks “

- On promoting loyal servants.
“Promote those who served for the state
Loyalty to Chief of the ten thousandth
Regardless his natural beauty“

- On devoting one self for the affair of the state.
“Let my petty body exhausted,
But not my state nature.
Let my whole body exhausted
But not my entire state”

Genghis also paid great attention to books and education. For example, “Who is the best scholar?” he asked from Khuilder Setsen. “One who considers and controls his own behavior and acts” Khuildar Setsen replied. It expresses and emphasizes the importance of self-control and self-monitoring.

- On use of alcohol.
“It ruins mind
It exhaust wealth
When it reach to the tongue
It like a mosquito
When it relives from tongue
It like an elephant.”
said Boorchi.

He paid attention to the feelings of people and wanted to attract them.
“Teeth for meat is in mouth
Teeth for human is in soul.
Win one with your body strength
Win many with your mind strength“

Therefore, Genghis was the unique, outstanding and glorious general, statesman and hero of the people of Mongolia. He provided his own contributions to the history of the mankind by bringing Mongolia into the spotlight of the world and connecting the peculiar civilization of nomads to the other civilizations of Europe and Asia. The Great Khan also developed the military doctrine of nomadic warfare, along with the tactics, skills and theory of a permanent army. These innovations were his contribution to the development of the military history of the world. He devoted himself and his entire life to developing international relations, customs and state affairs. He strived for strengthening the independence of his state. Genghis provided his unique contribution to the Asian nations in elaborating his statehood tradition and doctrine.
