Long song singers

Singing a traditional Mongolian long song is not an easy task. However, the country has numerous well known and unknown singers. Three long song singers – B.Nomin-Erdene, G.Erdenechimeg and D.Uuriintuya – have become popular for their special vocal performances in the ethnic/pop genre and debut album released on February 18, in the capital city. They have already performed in popular European countries like France, Germany and Switzerland.

The three were asked why they wanted to produce songs in this difficult genre even though it represents part of Mongolian traditional culture much in the same way as the morin khuur. “We wanted to introduce our traditional culture to the world through our very different styles. Likewise, we wanted to introduce this to our country.” They also explained that every country has its own specialty, like Italy has its classical art, France has its choir, Japan has samurai dance and China has the music ensemble and flute.

“We sing long songs in ethnic and pop styles producing three different voices in contemporary pop music. What we differ from others is that we sing in rhythm through three different vocal types.” They believe that their first song Tsombon Tuuraitai Khuren is a good, professional effort. “Since it is the first Mongolian ethnic/pop song, it will be the first in the world”, explained the girls, who are planning to perform in the USA this year. Moreover, they will perform on February 29 at the State Circus.
