Hakuho Becomes Baseballer

Wearing the number 69 on his jersey, Hakuho fired a strike clocked at 112 kilometers per hour. A buzz went through the crowed as the ball popped loudly into the catcher’s mitt, and even the Giants manager, Hara Kantoku, seemed impressed by the Yokozuna’s arm calling the pitch a thing of beauty.

Hakuho commented afterwards, “That was awesome. It made quite the noise when it hit the mitt didn’t it. I want to do that again.” Hakuho actually had a little incentive before taking his turn to throw out the first pitch.

Five days earlier when Major League Baseball opened its own season in Japan, 16 year-old Japanese golf sensation, Ryo Ishikawa, threw out the first pitch clocking 94 kilometers per hour. At the time Hakuho commented, “I can’t lose to him. I need to at least throw it 100.”
