The organizational structure and line of activities of the Ministry of Road, Transport and Tourism of Mongolia includes all modes of transportation such as road, railway, air and maritime transport which take major part in its ultimate goal to develop an infrastructure network that is able to sustain  economic growth of the country.

The road transport sector has started its history since 1920’s and played an important role in the transport sector of the country whereas other means of transport were not sufficiently providing countrywide service. Mongolian railway was set up in 1949 and since then it has being run by Mongolian and Russian shareholders’ joint venture. The main railway line runs along a corridor between Sukhbaatar and Zamiin Uud and, Ereen Tsav and Choibalsan which are considered to be  international routes. 

The security of civil aviation services by air companies, coordination policy of functions, air navigations and the airport services are assured and taken by The Government Implementing Agency – the Civil Aviation  Authority. In the result of policy measures taken for improving air navigation services to line up with the international standards,

Maritime transport is undertaken by 1 tugboat along with 3 numbers of barges carrying a freight only in the Huvsugul Lake between Khankh in Russia and Khatgal village in Mongolia.
