yokozuna1_2Japanese media are reporting that disgraced Mongolian sumo grand champion, Yokozuna Asashoryu, will return to Japan to resume wrestling on November 23.

Kenshiro Matsunami, senior Vice Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has confirmed he has been in touch with Asashoryu, and has been told the sumo champion will return to Japan shortly.

Matsunami said Asashoryu will enter Japan in Fukuoka, where the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament is being held.

Asashoryu was suspended for two tournaments this fall. The suspension followed his taking a medical leave of absence this summer, only to be seen playing soccer in Mongolia while supposedly recuperating.

Asashoryu is the first grand champion to have ever been suspended.

Media reports say Asashoryu will apologize for his behavior to the Yokozuna Deliberation Council after returning to Japan.
