Turk Yurt

Kingdom of Turk had existed between VI-VIII centuries AD. The Mongolian tribes settled along the rivers of Tuul, Onon and Kherlen and had given taxes to Turkish King. Archaeological findings prove that nomadic cultures such as literacy, architecture, decorative art and music during Turkish domination. Turkish scripture known as Orkhon Scripture carved on the stone is one of greatest cultural heritages of the world. The Turk Yurt is divided into two parts by its shape, design and structure. The biggest difference between Turk and Mongol Yurt is their lattice walls. The Turks made bends upper part of the walls and never did that the lower parts. That’s why the section of Yurt looked bigger at the top and smaller at the bottom. This kindof Yurt was very warm. But it wasn’t comfortable because its capacity was too low. We showed the structures of Turkish Yurt, based on the docu¬ments of study made by researchers of Soviet Union Vasilyeva GP, Makhova EA:
- Diameter of toono-120 cm
- Height of semi circle- 30 cm
- Height of walls-140 cm
- Length of uni- 210 cm and make bend 160 cm from the upper edge. The wall of Yurt which has such uni sometimes reaches from 160 cm to 180 cm high. To make one wall of Turk Yurt the carpenter chooses 30 sticks in different lengths and fastens them with thongs, making the lat¬tice like shape. This kind of wall has 10 juncture points. 4 to 8 lattice walls are required to make one Yurt. Perhaps one part inherited from Hun’s era to today’s Turk Yurt is its uni. The other parts of Turk Yurt couldn’t inherit its original shapes. There is no evidence how was the first shapes and structures of ancient Yurt parts. But researchers predict the images of ancient Yurt based on the compared study among the Yurt parts of Afghanistan’s Khazara, Mongolia and Turk. All those Yurt types have experienced a long way of evolution to transfer from prehistoric dugouts and wigwags to modern Yurt. However the Yurt has developed in different ways they all inherited the features of their own nations. We already mentioned the Turk Yurt is the modernized version of Hun’s Yurt. But today’s Mongol Yurt is most developed version among all types of Yurt. That’s because the Turk Yurt dominated the earlier periods of development stages of Yurt. In particular, the Turk Yurtr had been widely used till the beginning of 8th century AD.
