Hotel in Mongolia

Most places cost at least US$40 per single room. Most hotels (zochid buudal) have three types of rooms: a ‘deluxe’ (buten lyuks) room, which includes a separate sitting room, with TV, and a private bath-room, a half-deluxe (khagas lyuks), which is much the same only a little smaller but often much cheaper, and a ‘simple’ (engiin) room, usually with a shared bathroom. Sometimes, dormitory-style (niitiin bair) beds are also available. Usually empty and falling apart, though aimag capitals such as Tsetserleg, Arvaikheer and Uliastai have new private hotels which are quite good.

UB Hotel
The UB Hotel is located on Peace Avenue next to Sukbaatar Square, which is the main road running through the city. The hotel is a popular place to stay throughout the summer and fills up fairly quickly, so it may be an idea to book in advance. However most people are passing through or stay on for short periods. There are also a number of bars in the hotel. The hotel is popular with press conferences and other venues such as award ceremonies commercial seminars and promotion evenings. Again the top floor of the hotel is home to a number of bars and VIP rooms including the “Martini Bar”, serving cocktails. Professional bar staff are a rarity in Mongolia so don’t be surprised to see the waiter pouring your cocktail while he’s reading the instructions on how to make it!

None – the – less the service is generally quite good, despite the teenage bar staff. The bar offers a great view of UB from the top floor too! The rooms have a “Ye Olde” Russian feel to them, which is quite nice if your that way inclined.
The hotel has a large conference room, which can be hired out for corporate dinners and parties. There’s also a large spacious stage if you wanna get down and boogie … er, on it!

Location: Peace Avenue, next to Sukbaatar Square.
Room prices range from $80.00 right upto $185.00 for a super de luxe room.

Chinggis Khaan Hotel
The Chinggis hotel is attached to the same building as the Sky shopping centre. The Chinngis is a very modern hotel that is particularly popular with Korean and Japanese tourists as well as seminar groups and business meetings. Like the UB hotel, it’s also popular with Mongolia’s more opulent other half, wanting to spend some hard earned Dollars.

The Chinngis is a very modern hotel that is particularly popular with Korean and Japanese tourists as well as seminar groups and business meetings. The restaurant on the top floor of the hotel is popular is ex- pats as well as hotel guests and offers one of the best views of the city and the surrounding countryside and the river.

The cocktail menu is reasonably priced and offers a wide range of drinks from around the world, although trained bar staff are something of a rarity in Mongolia full stop, so don’t be surprised if you see bar person reading the instructions as they pour them for you!

The rooms are spacious and well decorated, as with all the other large and three star plus hotels in the country, the Chinggis offers room service facilities and ensuite. There’s also a coffee bar and restaurant, which are both situated in the lobby, serving excellent hot chocolate and coffee, both provide a comfortable and relaxing environment to veg in for a while between trips.

Bayangol Hotel
The Boyongol consists of two buildings standing side by side, and is situated behind the Mongolian State Ballet Theatre. The hotel is very popular with miners returning from their stints in the in Gobi and other areas. This particular hotel attracts a lot of it’s custom from the business sector.

The hotel is generally occupied by businessmen and other commercial visitors passing through the country or running training courses.
Although a number of tour operators use the hotel to accommodate large tourist parties. The rooms are reasonably well decorated and charge a competitive rate in comparison to some of the other hotels in the capital.

The Bayangol is not so much a family place as the Australian miners can get pretty rowdy after 1 drink! However the hotel is also home to the Taj Mahal indian restaurant, which you can find on the third floor of the hotel and is definitely worth a visit, the food and the service are excellent and family friendly.

There’s also a souvenir shop in the lobby and a small supermarket, selling a few treats from home is you get lonely. The hotel is centrally located close to the National Drama Theatre just off Peace Avenue. There is also a western style restaurant called Casablanca, which is usually quite busy with miners. Night here can be pretty unsavory and isn’t such as good place for the family drunk miners and scantily clad waitresses … I’m sure you get the picture.

Puma Hotel
